Brad is currently a commercial freelance photographer and The Buffett Visiting Professor of Photojournalism at Arizona State University. Brad is an award-winning photojournalist whose professional career began in 1989. As the Director of Photography for the East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Arizona, he lead a team of photographers and videographers on the “Reasonable Doubt” project, a 2008 Pulitzer Prizewinning news and web piece.
In 1999, the National Press Photographers Association honored Brad Armstrong with the National Humanitarian Award for saving the life of a child who was struck by a moving vehicle. He has won over 30 State and Regional photojournalism awards including two Arizona Picture of the Year awards and one Best of the West award.
His photography is held in private collections in the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Brad’s work has been published in newspapers and magazines, and was recently featured in an HBO documentary on the late Senator Barry Goldwater, “Mr. Conservative.”
